Your contribution will make an impact, and every bit helps. Donate here, share with your friends, or create your own fundraiser for FRIENDS, Inc! Your support provides single individuals & families with safety, security, and support - especially now when it can be harder than ever to leave. Financial dependence is one main tactic an abuser uses to keep victims in the home.
Our mission is to empower those affected by domestic violence and sexual assault by offering safety, support, and community awareness.
As an Essential Service, FRIENDS continues to be open and available for services. We continue to be committed to safeguarding ALL that enter our facility. We do not want survivors to be without safe options.
In order to ensure the health of both clients and staff, we purchased laptops and telehealth equipment for our essential staff to use in order to work remotely and keep our clients counseling and advocacy sessions private. We purchased additional cleaning supplies to ensure a safe, sanitary environment at the shelter and advocacy spaces. Further, we have established a safe quarantine procedure prior for entering the communal shelter facility, in order to ensure physical distancing and reduce the risk of spread of Covid-19 in a communal residential facility. Outreach services including advocacy, art therapy, case management, and legal services can occur virtually or in our office pending the individuals comfort. We have created spaces and policies to practice safety through social distancing and masks.
What most of us have had to navigate with this pandemic, working from home, managing children’s academics remotely etc., our clients also navigate. However, our clients also found themselves in increased danger in a home that is violent. The trauma that you and I experience has added “layers” to a victim in a violent relationship, which makes it even more dangerous and deadly. Therefore, it is imperative that FRIENDS continue to remain a viable option for individuals seeking a way out of the violence in their lives.
