General Summary:

Primary responsibility is to provide family law representation and assistance to victims of domestic violence and/or sexual assault in Washington County.

 

Essential Functions:

• Provides trauma-informed care practices into service provision for all clients

• Manage a case load of ongoing family law cases, including effective representation of clients in contested hearings.

• Maintain client files in FRIENDS database as well as required legal files; noting all deadlines, communications and other relevant information.

• Maintains reporting of outcomes for family law program.

• Provide assistance, information, or representation at Injunction hearings when requested by FRIENDS Legal Advocate

• Actively participate on Washington County Bar and Family Law meetings as well as volunteer at the Washington County Family Law Assistance Program.

• Attends monthly all staff meeting, and bi-weekly updates with Associate Director.

• Supports and attends all FRIENDS special events.

• Represents FRIENDS in a positive manner.

• Other duties as assigned.

 

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

• Law degree from an Accredited University.

• Licensed to practice law in the State of Wisconsin.

• Knowledge of domestic and sexual violence dynamics and the criminal justice system. 5+ years of litigation and family law experience is preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Strong self-motivation and organizational skills to manage a variety of diversified tasks in a timely manner.

• Excellent communication skills; cultural competence and the ability to interact with diverse populations.  Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

• Ability to work flexible hours.

• Maintains a high degree of professionalism with sound judgment.

• Ability to work well in a team or independent environment.

• Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office products. 

• Valid driver’s license.

 

Hours per week, salary, work location:

• 35-40 hours per week

• Salary range is $50,000-$55,000

• Option of working remotely or at FRIENDS, Inc. location

• Position has been continuously grant funded since 2011 and is currently funded through 2024 with a reasonable expectation, but not guarantee, that funding will continue to be renewed annually.
