Sexual Assault Advocate

General Summary

 

The Sexual Violence Advocate (SVA) position is a highly dynamic leadership position within our agency. The SVA must provide sensitive 1:1 advocacy for survivors of sexual violence and must possess strong leadership and communication skills to coordinate our Sexual Assault Response Team (SART). The SVA interacts directly with the SANE nursing staff at our hospitals, the District Attorney’s Office, and Law Enforcement Officers. This position also trains volunteers who attend Sexual Assault Nurse Exams (SANE) with survivors after an incident has occurred.


Essential Functions:

  • Provides trauma-informed care practices into service provision for all clients.

  • Answers crisis line, provides referrals, and completes database entry.

  • Provides 1:1 advocacy to adults and teens who have experienced sexual abuse. Advocacy includes support, identifying needs, developing coping and grounding methods, safety planning, and establishing next steps.

  • Facilitates peer-to-peer support group.

  • Maintains relationships with and conducts sessions (group or individual) at the juvenile detention center

  • Rotate quarterly attendance for forensic interviews and SV Charging Conferences with the SV Victim Advocate.

  • Responds to SANE requests during business hours and rotates monthly on-call response after business hours to provide advocacy and support for victims.

  • Maintains active role on Washington County Sexual Assault Response Team (SART).

  • Develops and maintains a strong knowledge base regarding community agencies and resources.

  • Attends monthly all staff meeting, bi-weekly coordinator meetings, and weekly updates with Associate Director.

  • Supports and attends all FRIENDS special events and functions including internal committees such as Social Media.

  • Represents FRIENDS in a positive manner.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Requires a level of knowledge acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree in Human Services or related field OR a combination of relevant education and employment required.

  • Prior related work experience in the areas of sexual violence, domestic violence, and the trauma-informed service provision framework. 1-2 years direct client work preferred.

  • Excellent communication skills; cultural competence and the ability to interact with diverse populations. Ability to maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

  • Strong self-motivation and organizational skills to manage a variety of diversified tasks in a timely manner.

  • Ability to work flexible hours.

  • Maintains a high degree of professionalism with sound judgment.

  • Ability to work well in a team or independent environment.

  • Working knowledge of all Microsoft Office products.

  • Valid driver’s license.

Working Conditions

  • Normal office environment

  • Must be able to lift and carry a minimum of 30 pounds

  • Work Schedule may include some evening and weekend hours

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $42,000.00 - $44,000.00 per year
